Mankind's Golden Era of Space Exploration
A 21st Century Satellite Orbiting Earth
U.S. Vice President Dan Quayle, then the chairman of the National Space Council, noted in 1990 that mankind was entering a golden era in space exploration.
U.S. help with Russia's astronomy satellite Radioastron was a small, significant step in evolving cooperation in space, Quayle said.
He recalled that the late renowned Soviet physicist Andrei Sakharov, before he died, had asked for American involvement in the Radioastron project.
